Maintenance Tips for Frequent Drivers

When the weather is warmer, people generally tend to drive more. During the spring and summer there are more things to do and more people to visit. If you generally have a long commute on a regular basis, you understand how a break down or a flat tire can absolutely ruin your day. Getting regular auto maintenance should be thought of as more of a necessity than a luxury. Don’t take chances by not maintaining your vehicle and already be  prepared for the additional mileage you’ll drive and put on it.

Save time, money and frustration:

 Changing your own fuses.

Try to locate the fuse panel in the vehicle. It’s usually on the driver’s side of the dashboard and under the steering wheel. It could also be located in the engine compartment, the glove box or even the front dash door jambs. You can take out the blown fuse with a pair of pullers or tweezers pretty easily. You should replace the fuse as recommended in your vehicle’s owner’s manual. Then, test it to see ensure it is working correctly.

Checking your tire pressure with a tire gauge.

One of the most important auto maintenance tips is to keep your tires properly inflated. Tire tread can be worn down by heat and mileage. By using a tire gauge you can easily check how much air each one of your tire needs. It is recommended that you replace any and all tires that are worn down too much to safely drive on.

Changing your vehicle’s oil

Whether you decide to do it yourself or you take it to an auto repair shop, changing your vehicle’s oil regularly is an inexpensive way to help ensure your vehicle stays on the road. Keep track of the mileage between your oil changes to know when you are due for the next one.

Detail your vehicle.

Clean it yourself of have both the inside and the outside of your car, truck or SUV cleaned from top to bottom. If you spend a lot of time in your car it’s sometimes hard to keep a vehicle looking new if it’s really dirty or covered with dust.

Being prepared

People who rely on their vehicles to drive to and from work or school every day understand the importance of vehicle maintenance. Being prepared will help to keep you from getting stuck on a road without help because you didn’t bother to check a tire or top off the fluids in your vehicle. Simply be prepared.

If you need maintenance or auto repair services, especially before the change of seasons, the skilled technicians at AAMCO Lee’s Summit are here to take care of all the services needed for your car, truck, SUV or van.
